Windmill Grill & Saloon
In 1890 William L. Scott and his brother, Walter E. Scott opened the Scott Bros store. They saw the possibilities of the Saint Jo area with a growing pioneer sector and a need for a hardware and furniture store.
On November 26, 1911, the building was completely destroyed by one of the most disastrous fires in the history of Saint Jo. The fire started in an adjoining building, which was Easterwood’s Dry Goods. Numerous businesses were also destroyed, including Davis Livery Barn, A. J. Petit’s Grocery Store, J. B. Giles Pool Hall, and the OK Hotel, which was also owned by the Scott Bros.
In August of 1912, the Scott Bros rebuilt their hardware store, across the street from the original location, added a casket-making business, and proudly served the pioneers of North Texas for many years. The Scott’s have always identified with the welfare and civic development of the area.
This same building, which is still owned by the Scott family, currently operates as the Windmill Grill & Saloon. Decorated with numerous historical items and pictures from the Saint Jo area. Serving wonderful homemade hamburgers, beer, local wines, pool, and live entertainment on the weekends.
Drop by for a nostalgic look into Saint Jo’s past while enjoying a great local meal.
